School (and a Kira eulogy)

No matter whether you're homeschooled or, gasp and faint, public schooled or private schooled, or in college, or whatever. (I have nothing personal against anyone because of any given schooling system- except maybe my first grade bus driver who lost me on the first day. In the middle of Raleigh. Of course I don't hold a grudge, what are you talking about?- However, as a homeschooler, there are stereotypes and stigmas to uphold.)
School is school. Some things stay the same. We can commiserate/enjoy common things, and observe differences with calm and reserved superiority interest

But seriously (if seriously was a thing on Scratch That), let us mourn together over the calamity that school can be, and yet relish the joys of learning.

First off, I took the PSAT last Wednesday. Urgle. Anyone who is/was a high school junior this year knows the pain of insufficient time to complete the math section. Or the feeling that your overachieving desk neighbor is going to single-handedly overthrow the College Board's grading curve. (Celia, ahem. :) On the plus side, we won't get the results until December, plenty of time to pray for mercy.

WE INTERRUPT THIS PROGRAM TO BRING BREAKING NEWS.
Let us all take a moment of silence as we consider the lovely and well-spent life of a certain Kira Q. Much to our deep heartbreak, that life was rudely cut short by the sheer dreadfulness of a particularly nerve-racking placement test, the source of which will remain unmentioned to shun the guilty. Paramedics rushed to the scene to find-- wait. What's this? REALLY?!? Folks, she's done it! The amazing Kira Q., I have just received word, has pulled through her absolute-value-function-induced coma and will live to conquer, assuredly in the very distant and not entirely inevitable future, more quizzes, exams, and assorted questionnaires, all of which will tremble and quake at the sound of her name! All hail Queen Kira, conquerer of the Placement Test!

Back to less epic matters. Like History, part of the CC (my sort-of home school co-op but not really) curriculum. Except, the only real annoyance with my history text book is its epic-ness. I don't mean how awesome it is, although some of those old dead people were pretty interesting. Nay, in this I mean the sheer volume of the volume. The pages comprise enough book to crush a grown elephant with a sumo wrestler for a trainer. The only way one can survive History class is by means of "humongous Genghis Khan arms." (If confused, see last post and/or Rachel P.) And that's just American History. Better start training for next year's World History, worth at least three grown elephants and the sumo wrestler.

Let us continue to Literature, consisting of Poetry and Shakespeare. The latter is ingenious, offering many collectible phrases, but easily awkward and confusing. The former is, well, hmm. How to put this. BAD. Not only is it teenage poetry, it's assigned teenage poetry. Moving on, quickly.

Philosophy. Very fun. Inspires debates left and right, ranging from free will/ predestination relations to Firehouse vs. Jimmy Johns. Hours of this.

The time at CC (my sort-of home school co-op but not really) not spent on discussing the above three subjects is spent in macho competitions, like arm wrestling, who drinks more water per day, and who had to get up the earliest. Needless to say, I win every time (haha- NOT; even with my HGK arms.)

You are wondering "What about MATH and SCIENCE and FOREIGN LANGUAGE etc.!?!"

Put the truant officer on hold. I am employed in all these subjects, they just don't sparkle enough for mention in my oh-so-cultured blog like Shakespeare or John Locke or Andrew Jackson (actually, Andrew Jackson anti-sparkles. He wasn't very nice.) I mean, Latin's a dead language, chemistry reduces the wonders of the world to tiny, manageable, boxed-in parts, and math is math. So, I realize this paragraph is a tribute to my CC schoolmates who can make even the skepticism of David Hume shine. Aww, sweet.

ANYways, there's a glimpse of part of my life. School is the main reason I completely skipped posting in September, and a no-post month will probably happen again, just warning you. I know, I hate to disappoint my lovely fans, but-- what? You don't care? Oh well. *sniff* I guess *sniff* life will go on... *sob trailing off as I flee from the keyboard*
Fake guilt tripping you guys is cheap. Sorry.

God Bless and HAVE A WONDELIGHTFUL DAY!!!

Almost Thea
